Dieter Nuhr, known as a cabaret artist and comedian, studied art with a focus on painting in Essen. For a good ten years he has been intensively devoted to photography. The title “Digital Painting” refers to Nuhr’s processing of his photographs with self-programmed brushes, which he overlays with image data and colours from other photo files, creating a hybrid of painting and photography. Size ratios are abolished, orientation points such as near and far, above or below shift, new, independent pictorial spaces emerge. The new works emancipate themselves from the previously documented reality and become artistically independent.
