The sculptor Joachim Jurgelucks (born in 1979), dedicates his current sculptural work to the stylised form, which he realises in works made of colourfully glazed wood. These abstract works can be understood as an antipole to his earlier representational ones on the human face carved from rough wood. Since 2015, the new abstract works have been created both as compact form compositions and as filigree line compositions.
Jurgelucks seeks the ideal balance between harmony and tension in his compositions of form exhibited in the Laing Gallery. The artist achieves elegance and simplicity in his compositions of forms through the balanced composition of round and pointed, voluminous and slender, concave and convex, open and closed elements.
